Mechanical

Mechanical - Vehicle body
Monocoque

Responsible for the car’s main carbon monocoque and rollcage structure. Focus on mechanical design, manufacturability, and composite layer optimization for strength and weight.

Mechanical - Vehicle body
Structural Development and Simulation

Design and optimize the vehicle’s structural components including underbody, shell, and solar deck. Tasks include layer optimization, integrating ribs, flanges, and cutouts for lights, camera, and solar mounting.

Mechanical - Vehicle body
Mechanisms

Develop and refine all moving systems such as hinges, canopy, and telescopic supports. Priorities are lightweight, adjustable designs with reliable operation and manufacturable mechanisms.

Mechanical - Vehicle body
Electrical Integration

Responsible for designing the Housings for all electronic components into the vehicle, including light housings, MPPT and MCU enclosures, and cable routing.

Mechanical - Vehicle body
Running Gear Integration

Works together with the Running Gear team to fully integrate wheels and other moving parts.

Mechanical - aerodynamics
Aero Fin Development

Create parametric CAD and kinematics, then validate with CFD across yaw angles. Use route wind data to define the operating envelope, then prototype and test in tunnel and on road.

Mechanical - Running Gear
Suspension

Design and simulate suspension components. Calculation and layout of the suspension for optimal performance and efficiency. Selection of suitable materials and manufacturing techniques for suspension components.

Mechanical - Running Gear
Steering

Design and simulate steering components. Calculation and layout of the steering for optimal performance and efficiency. Selection of suitable materials and manufacturing techniques for steering components.

Mechanical - Running Gear
Vehicle Dynamics - Kinematics

In charge of creating the kinematics, perform stability analysis to find the optimum kinematics parameters, Collaboration with other team members to ensure the design aligns with the overall project goals.

Mechanical - Running Gear
Motor Development

Mechanical - Running Gear
Drivetrain

Electrical

Electrical
Head of Electrical

Responsible for managing all electrical parts, including PCBs (Inverter, MPPTs) and Battery Development. Oversees Budget and Sponsoring Contacts and responsible for recruiting.

Electrical
Accumulator Design

Responsible for the overall battery pack architecture, including cell selection, mechanical layout, and safety systems. Optimize energy density, cooling, and serviceability. Collaboration with BMS and powertrain.

Electrical
Inverter (HW & SW)

Develops both the hardware and software of the inverter system, responsible for driving the motor efficiently and safely. Work on power electronics, control algorithms and communcation interfaces with other systems.

Electrical
MPPTs

Designs the hardware and control software for the vehicle’s power conversion and maximum power point tracking systems. Ensure efficient energy extraction from the power source and stable voltage regulation across varying loads.

Electrical
BMS

Develops both the elctronic circuits and ebedded software that monitor, protect and manage the accumulator. Handle sensing, data acquisition, fault detection, and cell balancing to ensure safe and optimal battery performance.

Mangement, Marketing & Logistics

Logistics
Logistics Planning

End-to-end planning and execution of international logistics for the team, including sea, air, and road freight, packaging solutions, and race-related transport coordination.

Theses

Looking for an interesting thesis topic that includes putting your knowledge into practice? We have you covered!

At TUfast Eco Team we provide the opportunity to fuel your academic achievement while making a real-world difference with our impactful projects. Once we know that you’re interested, we will get in touch with deparments of TUM that would supervise the thesis.

Monocoque: Design, Structural Simulation with Manufacturability constraints, Ply optimization, Carbon Fiber Layer build up optimization

Vehicle Dynamics – Multibody Simulation: Set up a multi-body simulation of lux027

Aero Fin (morphing): Develop and protype mechanism for morphing Aero Fin.

Seat ergonomics: Design and prototype lightweight seat while improving driver comfort and safety. From carbon fiber and 3D printed mesh.

General Information

The TUfast Eco Team is always looking for motivated members. We would like to invite our fellow students to be part of the team. In addition to the ability to work in a team, you will be able to acquire specialist knowledge and obtain practical experience, which will deepen and expand your theoretical knowledge. Furthermore, due to our partnerships with numerous companies, there would be many opportunities for internships, project studies or student research projects for the active members.

By participating you will...

Apply your theoretical knowledge to the real world challenging project

Get to know many people with the same interests / share your passion of technologies / vehicles

Get to know potential future employers

Experience the real production process and be part of the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in Australia!

We expect you to...

  • Be part of the team for the whole season (until August 2027). It would be great if you can join the competition in Australia (August 2027, >4 weeks, during main exam phase).
  • Bring experience for mechanical and electrical tasks (i.e. basics of CAD or circuit design), if you want to be part of the technical development. We also have interesting positions in Management, Marketing and Logistics!
  • Be ready to work around 15 hours per week on the project. This includes attending at least two production shifts per week during production (starting July 2026). We expect every member to attend team and subteam meetings as well as workdays (Saturday every 2nd week).
  • Integrate yourself in the team and have loads of fun!
